Safety and regulations

Some important things to remember:

  • Be visible
  • Be predictable
  • Be vigilant
  • Minimize distractions
  • Be heard when approaching other users
  • Be able to hear other users on the trail
  • Be self-sufficient, bring water, snacks, and a cell phone

In order to ensure the safety of all users of the Véloroute, we ask that you comply with the following regulations:

  • Helmets are mandatory if you are cycling.
  • Signal your intention to stop, overtake, or turn.
  • Overtaking is always done on the left!
  • Ride and walk on the right, in the direction of traffic.
  • When riding in an area shared with other users, slow down.
  • A bicycle bell is strongly recommended when approaching users.
  • A mirror as well as a front and rear light are strongly suggested.
  • In case of a medical emergency, call 911 and indicate the number of the nearest kilometre marker to your location.
  • Move in a line when you are in a group.
  • Dogs are only allowed on short leashes and under the control of walkers.
  • A maximum speed of 30 km is in effect. Slow down at intersections and when you pass by or overtake users.
  • For children under 12 years of age, travel with an adult.
  • Get off the path when you stop.
  • If you ride at night, use front and rear lights on your bike.
  • Cyclists with an electrically assisted bicycle must be at least 14 years of age, and cyclists 14 to 17 years of age must have a license authorizing them to ride a moped.
  • It is prohibited to drive while impaired.
  • Avoid driving while using a walkman fitted with earphones.
